"They are not from here
and I come from them…”
The exhibition has been specifically devised in response
to Rzytki’s
yugoslavian family and musical tradition. The Danube–Swabian mixed
culture’s history of exposure to settlement policies, migration, border
shifts, war and refuge, especially since the First World War, acts as the
fundament to the exhibition.
The history and storytelling transcends unto the present. For Rzytki, the
family represents a social space where experiences, suffering, war and luck
occur and in which the passing down of songs from generation to generation
plays a significant part in transporting this to the present day.
Sounds, images, music, furniture and objects. A musical séance in
the House For Them Ancestors; family becomes figment; the multiple layers
condense to find a voice in the singing kitchen table and storytelling carpets.
Musique d’ameublement.
This auratic system of formal layering and contextual references will be
presented and performed on three evenings.
The sound-pieces resulting from the
exhibition will appear on vinyl in Autumn, with a special edition of 7” singles
available at the Kunstraum.
